End of the eMARKS project

The eMARKS project has reached its official end on February 28th, 2009. Mr. Athanasiadis, eMARKS Coordinator, remarked on the wonderful run the project had which was made possible by the phenomenal collaboration of the project partners whose achievements exceeded the planned objectives. The project was able to update the service with new content and optimize its functionality as well as trial it with twice the originally foreseen participants. The produced business plan will serve as the plan for eMARKS future. The service will remain live until May of 2009 for demonstration purposes.

Workshop "IT and Enforcement of IPR within the Knowledge Society" completed successfully

The eMARKS Final Workshop with title “IT and Enforcement of IPR within the Knowledge Society” which took place in Lisbon, Portugal on February 12th, 2009 completed successfully.

The day opened with Mrs. Margarida Osório, responsible for the management of the IPR dossier in the Portuguese Customs General Directorate. She explained the tools that the Portuguese Customs currently use for dealing and fighting counterfeits. Mr. Jean-Marie Dou, consultant in strategic development in the Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Marseille-Provence, spoke on the “The Importance to SMEs of an IPR Search Tool”. He highlighted the importance of the eMARKS service for SMEs. After the coffee-break, the head of the IT department of the Portuguese Institute of Industrial Property, Mr. Rui Lourenço gave a brief survey on some of the main Trademark and Industrial Design Search Services. Mr. Nikolas Athanasiadis, the project coordinator, from Intrasoft International S.A. presented “The eMARKS Project” and “Searching Trademarks and Designs with the eMAGE Service”. He begun by showing the lifecycle model of an IPR and the different search needs it carries to the several actors involved. Then, the eMARKS project was presented along with its partners and its overall objectives. General and competitive advantages of the eMAGE service were highlighted. The day closed with the presentation of Mrs. Agnes Vandaz from the Hungarian Patent Office who presented results from the project evaluation, highlighting the broad acceptance that it enjoys.

The 33 participants who attended were primarily comprised of Intellectual Property Rights Experts. They had the opportunity to see and examine the eMARKS service. Their interest led to a lively discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of the service.
