The eMARKS Final Workshop with title “IT and Enforcement of IPR within the Knowledge Society” which took place in Lisbon, Portugal on February 12th, 2009 completed successfully.

| Description | The eMARKS Final International Workshop on “IT & Enforcement of IPR within the Knowledge Society” was held on February 12th, in Lisbon, with great success. This event brought together the perspective, of different types of potential users of the eMAGE service, on the usefulness of Trademarks and Design search services. The eMARKS Final International Workshop were boasted presentations from: Mrs Margarida Osório from the Portuguese Customs Directorate who presented the current counterfeiting methods. Mr. Jean-Marie Dou from the Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Marseille who expressed his perspective on the importance of IPR search tools for SMEs. Mr. Rui Lourenço from the Portuguese Industrial Property Office gave a brief survey on current IPR search services. In the afternoon, Mr. Nikolas Athanasiadis, the eMARKS project coordinator, from Intrasoft International S.A. provided an overview of the eMARKS service and how it can help address the IPR search needs of SMEs, IPR experts, Customs and Intellectual Property Offices. At the end of the day Mrs. Agnes Vadász from the Hungarian Patent Office showed the main results from the eMAGE trial phase. |

| Description | The workshop seeks to explore the strategic role of intellectual property rights (IPR) in the global information society and highlight the importance of the effective IPR protection which promotes innovation and ultimate economic performance. The eMARKS Workshop provides an opportunity for individual and industrial innovators in large or medium-sized companies as well as IPR experts such as lawyers and IPR professionals, to meet with other stakeholders in the area of IPR, such as Intellectual Property Offices, Public Authorities and policy makers in order to share their views and communicate their experience in the field. |

| Description | The goal of the event was to present the progress of the project as well as deployment issues and use the opportunity for validating the eMAGE service. The eMAGE service was presented to the participants who showed a lot interested in experiencing the system, hence filling the provided facilities for trying the system. This was a valuable opportunity to collect comments and questionnaires on the use of the system. Overall comments were positive and areas for improvement were identified and recorded. |
