The eMARKS Final Workshop with title “IT and Enforcement of IPR within the Knowledge Society” which took place in Lisbon, Portugal on February 12th, 2009 completed successfully.
eMARKS' unique characteristics is the provision of an image and natural language, multi-lingual interface for searching the mass of Trademarks/Industrial Designs registered with the EU Industrial Properties Offices. More specifically, a user of the eMARKS service will be able to identify whether a Trademark/Industrial Design is already registered with an EU Industrial Properties Office or not, by submitting to the service a digital photo of the Trademark/Industrial Design in question. The searching against the mass of content registered with the EU Industrial Properties Offices can be further optimised by allowing the eMARKS user to further qualify the search by natural language, multi-lingual semantic categories of interest. The technology used belongs in the area of content-based retrieval of multimedia collections as it has materialised in feature-based similarity search engines combined with natural language semantic search qualifications.
